The Structured Agenda-free Coaching Conversation (StACC) model is an evidence-based approach that supports people to:

  • take ownership and control of managing their health and wellbeing
  • build their confidence to self-manage effectively

It is non-condition specific and has been shown to improve health and wellbeing outcomes and reduce reliance on clinical services.

It can be used for any condition or issue – or combination of conditions or issues - that may be affecting people's lives, recognising that our lives impact our health and our health impacts our lives.

Training in the StACC model is accredited by the Personalised Care Institute (PCI) as a 4-day training for Health and Wellbeing Coaches.

Health and Wellbeing Coaches working in the NHS are required to complete a PCI-accredited 4-day training and have ongoing supervision by a suitably qualified trainer/supervisor.

Training in the StACC model and ongoing supervision can be accessed through Know Your Own Health.

The Structured Agenda-free Coaching Conversation is delivered as a stand-alone intervention.

It takes place across a set number of sessions, usually 5-6 but tailored to the individual.

A paper of an evaluation conducted across a three-and-a-half-year period is currently being peer-reviewed for publication (anticipated Autumn 2024).

A book and manual will follow (anticipated publication date: Autumn 2025).
